On behalf of the Softbill Group of WA, I would like to wish all our members a very Merry Xmas & a safe & prosperous New Year.
Brett Robinson.

Membership Renewals
Renewals are due on or before the 1st January 2002
Membership to the Softbill Group of WA was initially, "honorary based" and did not require a membership form to be submitted by a licensed softbill breeder, however as has always been the case that "honorary membership" like all memberships expire on 31/12/01. We hope to see 100% renewal, however for those members who no longer keep softbills or decline to renew, we wish you well for the future and say goodbye.
It is important to receive renewals on or before the 1st January, as we forecast the number of magazines needed for the first 3 editions and as our subscription has more than quadrupled since our first Magazine, this forecast has become quite important. A large part of the magazine is printed in advance to limit the work load from edition to edition, so your cooperation is appreciated. Any new memberships received in January, or late renewals will unfortunately not receive the February Magazine, as the February Magazine will go to print very early in January, due to the holiday period.

Text Box: We will be looking at holding meetings in 2002, however this will depend on members support, so we will hold a trial meeting at some stage to gauge the support from members. We also intend to have a members day out and will seek your input as to what that could entail. I was recently asked the status of the proposal put forward regarding the S.B.A, I am now in the position to respond. This proposal was in the main, received very well by a large portion of the breeders throughout Australia, however we did receive some concerns. Combine this with our total commitment to the Softbill Group of WA, and the fact that we did not follow the proposal up, therefore we have withdrawn the proposal. The web site for the Softbill Group of WA is now up and running, the web address has change due to a domain issue and is now www.users.bigpond.com/softbillgroupwa/
Please be patient as the site is under construction and we intend to continually update the site as time permits, we intend to have most of the common species on line for quick reference, helpful information, and of course information on the Softbill group of WA. Potential new members can go on line and download a membership form, which can then be posted. We will in time have on line membership and possibly the magazine may be posted on the web. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Christopher Maloney for his time and effort on the web site, Chris has played an integral part in the web site and his help has been invaluable. I would also like to thank Mr. Peter Barclay for his help in the upload. We now have our own email address which you can use to contact us or email your articles for the magazine. Our email address is : softbillgroupwa@bigpond.com. Over the past 12 months or so, we have been very busy putting into place a solid and very sound frame work for the continued future of the Softbill Group of WA. We have implemented, special provisions, legal safeguards, backups, and programs, many of which are normally reserved for big business. We have undertaken these actions to insure and guarantee that the Softbill Group of WA will be here for another 23 years and beyond.

P.S As we are well into the breeding season for many Softbill species, I hope it is going well for all our members.

Text Box: Softbill Group of WA December 2001
Dear Members,

With our second magazine under our belt, the future could not look better. The reaction to the October magazine was Fantastic to say the least, and I would like to thank those members who wrote or phoned with their congratulations, not only from WA but from around the country. It is certainly very encouraging to know that our members appreciate the magazine. Our first magazine was a bit of a learning curve, particularly with the software we used, unfortunately there were a few mistakes in particular the letter I, so as a consequence we have updated to the latest software available to run the magazine program. This new software will allow greater flexibility in the layout of the magazine and type set. As I said in the October magazine, we will get bigger and better as time goes on and as membership grows. Well our subscription membership has certainly grown, in fact it has more than quadrupled since October and it is literally growing weekly. We forecast that by Aprils magazine, distribution should reach around 100 copies or more Australia wide, based on current growth, and as we will be advertising in most capital cities in Australia, this figure may prove to be very conservative. Our main focus has, is, and always will be on WA members and promoting new WA membership to the group, after all it is the "Softbill Group of WA". However we do need and actively seek out the support of our fellow breeders throughout Australia. As we move into 2002 we will see the Softbill Group of WA move into it's 23rd year, we will also see the continued growth of the group in all facets. We will continue to forge strong associations with other groups and clubs throughout Australia. We will continue to offer free membership to WA members, provided they are licensed to keep softbills or temporary membership (2 months) if they are in the process of applying. We will, at this stage continue to offer limited free subscription membership to licensed softbill breeders out side of WA and charge a small postage fee for over seas subscription (we have received subscription membership for the UK and Canada). We are going to introduce a membership card (WA only) which will be issued to all current members. This card will in time entitle you to a % discount from selected dealers, and we are currently having on going discussions with additional sponsors so we can offer a wider selection of business who will offer a % discount to members.
